Statement

Lis Wuisman Jørgensen works in a field where material, body and memory merge in an exploratory artistic practice. Central to her work is parchment, a material with deep historical and cultural layers, which she produces herself through a slow and physically demanding process. This direct transformation from skin to object becomes not just a craft, but a fundamental artistic statement.
In her works, parchment does not appear as a neutral surface, but as a living material with its own history. The pores, scars, tensions and irregularities of the skin become active traces that carry stories about time, vulnerability and transformation.
Through photogravure, graphic prints, embossing, perforations and sculptural processing, Wuisman Jørgensen investigates the relationship between the visible and the hidden, between nature's organic structures and the human need to register, preserve and understand.
Her practice is located in the field of tension between graphics, objects, installations and material-based contemporary art. The works appear almost archaeological, as fragments, finds or traces from both biological and human stories and invite the viewer into a sensory space where time, material and memory become inextricably linked.
The most striking quality in her practice is perhaps precisely that she works with a material that already bears the imprint of life, and through this creates works that balance between the fragile and the permanent.

Lis Wuisman Jørgensen is a visual artist with a practice rooted in the material's memory, transformation and inherent history. At the center is the parchment—not just as a carrier of an image, but as a living material with its own body, structure and story. By making parchment from animal skins herself, she brings an almost forgotten craft tradition into the field of contemporary art and makes the very creation of the material an integral part of the work.
In the meeting between photographic processes, graphic techniques and organic surfaces, she explores the boundaries between the visible and the hidden, between vulnerability and strength, between nature and human intervention. The pores, scars, fibers and transparency of the skin become both traces of something lived and metaphors for memory, time and transience.
Her works move between the tactile object, the image surface and the installation. Here a poetic and physical presence arises, where the material does not just represent something, it is the story.
